Some days, I hear things that trigger old memories of challenging times during the project executions. At that time, I considered those words roadblocks to getting things done, but looking back, I realized that each obstacle forced me to look for better ways to plan and execute a readiness job.

Here are some of the comments I’ve heard from project teams over the years:

  1. Getting our organization ready for the go-live date and beyond is essential, of course. But we cannot spend too much time on those activities, change people. We have so much project work.
  2. When you communicate about project successes, let’s not get too emotional. Let’s stick to the facts. We are business people.
  3. We’ve always run projects without change management resources. Why do we suddenly need you?
  4. You, change people, are getting into my wheelhouse. I communicate/facilitate/organize/coordinate/co-create with others regarding XYZ activities. It has always been me, not you, doing that.
  5. We cannot invite you, change people, into meetings that you require. We understand you need that information, but you can get meeting minutes, which should be fine. We have already invited everyone and their mother.

If you support change, what would be some of the things you’ve heard that make you go… “Huh?”
